Moira came to Covenant House Pennsylvania after a frightening stint in an adult shelter. She was afraid, alone, and reluctant to trust anyone with the details of her plight. She seemed shy, yet behind the frightened eyes was a determined spirit, looking for someone to trust.
Sanctuary provided an atmosphere where hope and trust were permitted the opportunity to blossom again. Slowly, she began sharing her dreams about finishing high school, finding a good job, and rebuilding the self-respect that had been battered by family and supposed friends who had introduced her to drugs, alcohol, and negative relationships with men. She was told she was worthless. She had started to believe it might be true. . . She learned it was not. In March, Moira received her high school diploma while working full-time at a Day Care Center. For the first time in her life, she was independent. Her gifts were becoming obvious to others, and to herself.
Recently she accepted a position at the Philadelphia International Airport with increased salary and benefits. Her life has finally taken off.
