what are the warning signs?

Discussing personal health issues with a child or teen you are concerned about may prove difficult.

Typically, if a child answers yes to two or more of the questions below, they might be at risk and need to talk with a social services or health professional.

  1. Are you sexually active?
  2. Are you embarrassed to talk about sex with your partner?
  3. Do you have multiple sex partners?
  4. Does your partner have multiple partners?
  5. Do you share drug needles with others?
  6. Do you harm yourself by cutting or burning or other means?
  7. Do you feel persistently sad, hopeless or inadequate?
  8. Do you have difficulty concentrating and sleeping?
  9. Are you preoccupied with your weight?
  10. Do you either deny yourself food or overeat?
  11. Do you have an intense fear of becoming obese, even if you are losing weight?
  12. Do you constantly 'feel fat'?
  13. Have you stopped menstruating?
  14. Are you experiencing feelings of self-doubt, anxiety or depression?
